Battlestar Galactica: Season Three

Sure, there are plenty of spaceships, robots, and high-tech CGI effects, but Battlestar Galactica proved again in its third season that it's among the least geeky and most provocative televisions programs on the air.
The show regularly tackles major human issues and current events in a manner far more thoughtful and insightful than almost anything else on the small screen.
In "Precipice", the writers create a sly commentary on the war in Iraq by exploring the psyche of a society occupied by an enemy force and delivering a controversial rationale for suicide bombings.
Just a couple of shows later, "A Measure of Salvation" digs into the origin, purpose, and meaning of religion as the human traitor Baltar tries to use the Cylons' faith against them.
The next episode, "Hero", focuses on the price of human redemption as Colonel Tigh comes to grips with having killed his wife for betraying the human race and Admiral Adama atones for his possible provocation of the Cylon war.
Simply put, it's must-see viewing -- and a shame that the currently filming fourth season will be Galactica's final.
The Third Season DVD boxed-set contains all 20 episodes that aired in the fall of 2006 and spring of 2007.
And even if you've already watched it on television, there's plenty here that fans of the series would do well to take in, including extended footage, video blogs, webisodes, podcast commentaries, and behind-the-scenes featurettes.
