It doesn't matter what videogame system graces the home this year; there are great games for each of them. Here's a round-up of some the best; the newest and the brightest hope for the future of videogames (mostly). Darn, more choices. Hey, at least they're in alphabetical order...

Game: Project Gotham Racing
From: Microsoft
ESRB Rating: Everyone
Available On: Xbox (exclusively)
This revamped, overhauled, expanded and enhanced version of Metropolis Street Racer for Dreamcast, Project Gotham Racing distinguishes itself as not only one of the very best racing games available, but one that uniquely rewards bonus points for driving panache as much as placement across the finish line. Rip roaring through city streets and power sliding around turns, 4-wheel-drifting onto highway onramps and otherwise finessing supercharged cars to the finish line couldn't be more fun. The very definition of automobilia fantastica.

Game: Sega Sports 2K2
From: Sega
ESRB Rating: Everyone
Available on: Dreamcast, GameCube, PlayStation2 and Xbox.
Sega is in top form when they're making sports games. And since Sega discontinued production of their Dreamcast console hardware (upon which said sports games are online multiplayer enabled), they've developed flagship titles for all the other consoles, which is a very good thing. Check out NFL 2K2 and NBA 2K2 for sure, and definitely consider any other 2K2 sports title from Sega worthy of purchase.

Game: Silent Hill 2
From: Konami
ESRB Rating: Mature
Available On: PlayStation2 and Xbox (as SH2: Restless Dreams)
This game makes even the most disturbing of horror movies seem tame. Easily the grossest, most bone-chilling, most psychologically distressing story ever to grace interactive entertainment, Silent Hill 2 is not for the faint of heart or queasy of stomach. The Xbox version of SH2 is further enhanced and expanded beyond the already- horrific play found in the PlayStation2 version. If you like to be scared, Silent Hill 2 just might change your thinking.

Game: The Sims (et al)
From: Electronic Arts
ESRB Rating: Teen
Available On: Windows PC and Macintosh
If you haven't heard of the Sims yet, where have you been? The real world? A wholly unique simulation game where one creates and influences the minutiae of people. Yup, a people simulator. Extremely elaborate and available with a multitude of different expansions -- including the original Sims plus House Party, Livin' Large, Hot Date and the eagerly anticipated Sims Online. Rated "Teen" for Comic Mischief, Mature Sexual Themes and Mild Animated Violence, which is exactly what you want in a people simulator.

Game: Soul Reaver 2
From: Eidos
ESRB Rating: Mature
Available On: PlayStation2 and WindowsPC
Soul Reaver 2 continues the dark and gothic "Legacy of Kain" series. Making his first appearance on PS2 (so much for a contiguous series) Raizel, the netherworld's most fearsome resurrected soul-sucking vampire heck bent on kicking evil demonic butt, is back at it, this time in a more elaborate adventure with better puzzle solving elements, a more sinister and mysterious plot line and a more complex fighting system. The evolution of un-dead videogames.

Game: Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro
From: Activision
ESRB Rating: Everyone
Available On: PlayStation (exclusively)
Categorically the very best comic book superhero translation every to grace interactive entertainment, this Spider-Man sequel, Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro, is the only reason you'll need to hold tight to you original PlayStation console… of course, you can also play it on your PlayStation2.

Game: SSX Tricky
From: EA Sports BIG
ESRB Rating: Everyone
Available On: GameCube, PlayStation2 and Xbox
With a long and illustrious history of excellent sports games, Electronic Arts amps up the amplitude with their new "EA Sports BIG" line of superhuman athlete simulations. SSX Tricky can be considered the flagship title, taking the alrenalized snow sport to an impossible new level, where defying gravity is assured but pulling insane tricks up there in the air is the ecstatically magical challenge.

Game: Star Wars: Obi Wan
From: LucasArts
ESRB Rating: Teen
Available On: Xbox (exclusively)
And just when you though space combat was all LucasArts was going to do with the Star Wars franchise, out comes Obi Wan, a 3rd-person action/adventure featuring the young pony-tailed one: a boy and his light-sabre thwarting the evil machinations of crime-lording Hutts and dark-siding Sith. Originally to be a PC game, Microsoft did well to scoop this one up for Xbox exclusivity.
