If you're a hands-on hobbyist looking for an inkjet printer--and don't mind the average dimes per page ink cost--consider the Epson Stylus Photo 925 printer.

When it comes to printing your digital pix, colour inkjet printers sure have come down in price in the last couple of years and isn't that great?

No.

It's categorically non-great when you factor in a) the cost of replacement ink cartridges, which can cost almost as much as the printer itself; b) the fact that most new printers ship with their ink cartridges almost empty out of the box; c) colour ink effectively costs $0.15 - $0.50 per page; and d) prints fade in short order and simply do not last unless you use special photo printing paper, which runs $1 - $2 a pop--or more.

To wit, now that most photo/camera outlets process digital photos as well as film--and often give you a CD archive of those digital pix to boot--the cost and relative effortlessness make them the better solution.

Still, if you're a hands-on hobbyist taking the inkjet route and don't mind the average dimes per page ink cost, consider the Epson Stylus Photo 925 printer. It connects directly to your camera, memory card or PC and offers a brilliant 6-colour photo ink system, border free printing for that authentic lab look, and a paper roll cutting system that can churn out a stack of 4" x 6" snaps unattended (also does 5" x 7" and 8" x 10"s).

Internal software templates allow for a variety of cropping, editing and printing needs, all accessed through a built in view screen.
