Charge Station Quad for Wii
Nintendo keeps Wii costs down by skimping on components such as graphic processors, hard drives, and controller batteries. Nyko rectifies one of these shortcomings with a 4-pack of NiHMs and a single docking station for 4 Wii-motes.

If you're a Wii household with four active players, no doubt you've interrupted many a bowling session with a battery swap on a controller or two.

Following the success of the Charge Station for Wii, a two Wii Remote (Wii-mote) cradle and battery pack solution, Nyko just released the Charge Station Quad for Wii. It's a no brainer bundle that includes four rechargeable NiMH batteries, four customized, rubberized and color coded battery covers (replacing the stock Wii-mote battery covers, obviously), and an AC powered, 4-slot cradle to house your Wii-motes when not in use, charging or topping up the NiHMs in the process by way of recessed contact points in the back.

Each NiMH is good for a couple dozen hours of play per charge, but considering they're topped up every time you set them in the cradle, longevity is moot. In the long run, however, even NiMHs will give up the ghost and they'll need replacing eventually, a couple of years or more down the road, depending daily/weekly usage.

It should also be noted that the Charge Station Quad will not accommodate Wii-motes in their protective rubber jackets. You must peel those off or not use them in the first place... surely you've figured out how to use Wii-mote without launching it across the room by now, no? If not, perhaps you'd be better off spending your money on a hockey helmet. Just a thought.

Bear in mind, too, that a AA NiMH battery charger and a handful of rechargeable NiHM batteries costs notably less than a Charge Station Quad for Wii -- $20 - $30 depending on brand and bundle. However, considering ease-of-use, tidiness, and the Wii-white form factor of it all, the extra dough is worth the lesser hassle, not to mention the aesthetic elegance.
