Devil May Cry 2

A sequel, obviously, to last year's highly stylized and deliciously devilish Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2 brings us almost twice as much of the original stylized deliciousness.

However, as a single serving of Haagen-Dazs is probably better than 2 gallons, this sequel, by its very nature, fails to deliver the invigorating freshness of it predecessor, the rip-roaring razzle dazzle of a cool-as-ice, gun-toting, sword-swinging demon-slaying half-demon dude named Dante doing his evil-weeper thing in a highly imaginative world of gothic mayhem.

This time, enough is too much, and a point to it all is seriously lacking.

Still, the game contains some animated acrobatics that are a wonder to behold, and there are still gobs of nonchalant bloodletting and even a playable female sidekick adding some multiplicity, but Devil May Cry is the game you want to buy. Number 2: rent it.
