Are You All That
If you enjoy the likes of
Trivial Pursuit,
Millionaire and
You Don't Know Jack, check out Are you All That from Digital Leisure. It's an interactive trivia game on a DVD; you play it in your DVD movie player--or PlayStation2 or DVD-enable Xbox, PC or Mac-- using the remote control as the interface.
Gameplay consists of 1 to 4 player, multiple choice trivia divvied into six categories (famous quotes, music, news, inventions, etc.) and played game show-style, complete with computer generated host. It makes for a great, social "party game," keeping score throughout predetermined rounds of as few as 10 or as many as 250 questions pulled from an archive of some 1500.
The only downside to it are the unremitting interludes between each question; an interlude for player-up, for the question category, for the question, for the right/wrong answer, for displaying the correct answer, for the next player up, etc, which can get kind of tedious (not to mention annoyingly repetitive with the host quips), but it's a shortcoming of DVD-playback technology, not game design.
But if you don't need rapid fire gameplay, Are You All That is a lot of fun.
