Monsters vs. Aliens
When you think of games as a business, a business currently dominated by Nintendo's Wii, a quasi-low-cost, standard-definition game system largely targeted at unassuming moms who bought the little white waggle console because "it's good for kids" and bowling, then charging the exact same amount for Monsters vs. Aliens as its reduced-price, high definition console counterparts makes sense. And in fairness, there is a slight MSRP reduction of $10 from your typical $50 Wii games... but not the flat out "buy me" $20 reduction found on other formats.
In fact, you can't really blame Activision for a shrewd understanding of what the market will bear.
You can, however, lament the utterly lackluster graphics of the Wii version of Monsters vs. Aliens, which are pretty much on par (okay, maybe a tad cleaner, but still washy, hazy and lacking luster) with the old-generation PlayStation2 version of the game, which is $10 lesser still.
You can pretend that the exclusive Wii Remote (Wii-mote) motion control is a $10 value all by itself, but substituting thumb flicks for waggle and twitch hardly seems a costly developmental burden. Besides, using a second Wii-mote for targeting as Dr. Cockroach isn't exactly a precision endeavor, more like general vicinity slop.
Still, if the Wii version of Monsters vs. Aliens is your only purchase option, it's still pretty good fun. Just know that Xbox 360 and PlayStation3 owners are getting the better deal.
In other words, Activision thinks you're a sucker.
