Following in the footsteps of corny (but effective) stunts such as The Million Dollar Homepage and One Red Paperclip, Toronto-based independent (waaaay independent) film-maker J.T. Ruby has launched makingabaseballmovie.com.

For a minimum donation of $1, the fast and the curious loonie tossers and/or visitors with more money than they know what to do with can pony up and help J.T. pay the bills for his new movie. In return, you'll get your name in the film credits at the very least; higher levels of donation will net you an invite to the premiere of the movie and other perks. Ruby will kindly take donations up to $50,000, bless him, which makes for an "Executive Producer" credit.

If, for some unforeseen reason, the $400,000 required to make the film never gets raised after a two-year period (yeah, right – with a winning idea like this?) Ruby says he will refund all money.

The screenplay for the movie, a romantic baseball comedy called "A Shortstop in Shelby," apparently made it to the semi-finals of a screenwriting competition in Los Angeles. Ruby says he's already raised $3,200, mostly from family and friends.
