Microsoft recently crowned the first "Halo 2 World Champion" following a fierce online tournament via Xbox Live. Now certified as the master of Master Chiefs, "King Tuur" of the Netherlands out-played some 50,000 Halo 2 players from each of Xbox Live's 24 regions worldwide, knocking off "aimitux" of Japan in a final showdown. On top of fame and adulation, Turr scored some tangible goodies for his considerable efforts, including a 50" Samsung Flat Screen DLP HDTV, a Samsung DVD Player/Recorder, a half-size Master Chief Statue, a Samsung Camcorder, a personalized Xbox Live Halo 2 Global Champion Trophy featuring a gold Halo 2 game disc and $2,000 in cash. For those recently returning from Mars, Halo 2 is one of the most popular games of time, having sold more than 6.7 million copies worldwide since it launched in November, 2004. Though it contains a huge single-player game, Halo 2 is renowned for its online multi-player component, with more than 2 million unique users logging a record-breaking 240 million hours of playing time since its launch.
