If you're disappointed about the long wait before the next full installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise hits store shelves in October, 2007, fret no more, carjacking fans, because developer Rockstar today confirmed at E3 that it will be releasing GTA: Vice City Stories for the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) portable this fall.
Hot on the heels of last year's GTA: Liberty City Stories for PSP, which took place in the Liberty City setting of 2000's smash console hit GTA III, the new game will take place in the faux Miami of 2002's GTA: Vice City.
Vice City set sales records on the PS2 through an addictive combination of open-ended gameplay and a setting and soundtrack that spotlighted the new-wave 80s (if you were old enough to remember Miami Vice, the game would have felt awfully familiar, right down to the inclusion of hot-shot cops cruising around in lookalike Lamborghinis).
No word yet, though, on when Vice City Stories will be set, or if it will contain a soundtrack of actual 80s hits, like its big-brother namesake. However, seeing as Liberty City Stories mimicked GTA III right down to the late 90s timeline and great lineup of fake songs and radio ads mocking the era, it's a pretty safe bet to assume that the game will follow the Vice City template in terms of time and tunes.
Look for Vice City Stories to shoot its way to retail on October 17, 2006.
