Microsoft just launched Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays, a new program that will provide a regular launch schedule of new Xbox Live Arcade titles on the Xbox 360.

Beginning today, at least one new Xbox Live Arcade game will be made available each Hump Day, aka Wednesday, at 9:00 Eastern, beginning tonight with the coin-op classic, Frogger.

Targeted at "casual gamers" as well as hardcore players looking for a break from Oblivion and the like, Xbox Live Arcade is an interactive hub within the Xbox Live online service, itself an exclusive, virtual community where Xbox owners can access scoreboards, game demos, updates, friends lists, voice and text messaging and other features, including a "Marketplace" and, of course, Arcade. Some Xbox Live components are free and come part and parcel with a "Silver" membership, with more functions and features available with an annual subscription to the service at a "Gold" or "Platinum" level.

Regardless, Live Arcade has been a runaway hit for Microsoft, with a couple dozen, comparatively low-budget titles offered to users for a small fee equating to roughly $5 - $20 (each has a limited "free trial" option as well), sometimes exclusive to Xbox Live Arcade, all of them, collectively, coming off as the one of the console's most endearing features. (See Astropop to Zuma: The definitive guide to Xbox Live Arcade for details.)

Now, a new crop of titles are coming to Arcade, starting tonight with Frogger, next week with Cloning Clyde, July 26 with Galaga, August 2 with Street Fighter II’ Hyper Fighting and August 9 with the mother of all casual games, Pac-Man.

Frogger specifically will also boast a severe spit-polish, featuring tweaks like enhanced artwork and backdrops (with original graphics also available, optionally); a fresh soundtrack and upgraded sound effects; split screen multiplayer modes; and new Co-op vs Speed and Head-to-Head modes.

Future Hump Day retro rebirth titles are also expected to get the buff and polish treatment.
