Ludlum game rights EA exclusive
Ludlum Entertainment has granted Electronic Arts the exclusive worldwide license to create video games based on the works of Robert Ludlum, including the Bourne series.
Interestingly, "exclusivity" is fleeting. Back in 2005, Ludlum Entertainment licensed rights to Vivendi-Universal in an "exclusive" 10-year deal to make Bourne games, then revoked (re-acquired) the license in 2008 after the release of a critically-acclaimed "Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy" game for PlayStation3 and Xbox 360.
The first game to be released as part of the new multi-year agreement with latest exclusive BFF, EA, is based on Jason Bourne (surprise) and is currently in development with Starbreeze Studios in Uppsala, Sweden.
Ludlum Entertainment recently entered into a production deal with Universal Studios to produce films based on the dozens of books in the Robert Ludlum library, as well as films outside the library. The company currently has films in development at Universal, MGM, Paramount and with Summit Entertainment.
No word on a new
Dirt Devil commercial featuring Ludlum or any of his literary characters, but considering the posthumous clout of Robert Ludlum as a brand rather than just a best selling author of them old fangled things called "books," it seems plausible.
