A trilogy no more, CraveOnline's shocktillyoudrop.com scooped confirmation that a fourth Resident Evil film is in the works and slated for release on September 17, 2010.

Based on the popular survival/horror videogame franchise, a fourth installment of the zombie-shooting series will be called Resident Evil: Afterlife, scripted again by Paul W.S. Anderson, who also wrote the first three films.

Though not critical darlings, the first three RE flicks performed well at the box office, enjoyed by movie goers as good, mindless, popcorn fair. Moreover, the films thus far have been praised by gamers for production quality far above typical game-to-movie adaptations - or more succinctly, "game movies that didn't suck."

Resident Evil is the most successful game to make it to the big screen with less criticism. It's rare for good games to still be good in movies. I also read that some producer is thinking about making World of Warcraft a movie, oh well, good luck to them.
