Along with today's launch of the hotly anticipated The Beatles: Rock Band for PlayStation2, PlayStation3, Wii and Xbox 360, a limited edition, professionally customized Xbox 360 honoring the Fab Four is up for auction on eBay (item number 120467388504), with all proceeds benefitting Doctors Without Borders / Medicins Sans Frontieres.

According to a press release, the first of only twenty of these consoles will be available for auction starting today. Bidding closes on September 17, 2009.

The custom consoles, hand-painted with illustrations from the intro cinematic for The Beatles: Rock Band game, were created by the Oscar winning film and animation company, Passion Pictures.

To press time, the bidding had reached more than US$4,200.00.

For fans and would-be philanthropist a little shy on such cash, Microsoft is also offering Xbox Live members a second charitable option: A special "All You Need Is Love" track is now available exclusively on Xbox 360 with Apple Corps Ltd, MTV Games, Harmonix and Microsoft proceeds also benefiting Doctors Without Borders.

Reportedly, the charity of choice was personally selected by surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr along with Beatles widows Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison. The track is available for 160 Microsoft Points, or US$2.00.

Update - September 17, 2009 - Winning bid: US $17,300.00. Holy crap.
