Telus Mobility just confirmed that it will bring the Motorola Milestone to Canada in "early 2010."
Known in the US market as the Motorola Droid from Verizon, the Milestone is an Android powered smartphone that incorporates a slide-out keyboard as well as full multi-touch capabilities and the most recent Google operating system, Android OS 2.0, also known as Éclair. The Milestone smartphone will be exclusive to Telus. Pricing and specific release dates were not disclosed.
A sneak-peek at the Motorola Milestone last week during Telus' HSPA+ network launch was impressive. The device's design and feature-set had all the right stuff for a Motorola comeback in the handset space.
The Milestone on hand was thin but weighty. It felt sturdy and well designed while its all-metal body and bright screen were the best yet seen in a premium smartphone.
Powered by a 550MHz processor, the Milestone has onboard GPS with turn-by-turn navigation tied into Google Maps. The device's battery promises 385 minutes of continuous usage time. Impressively, the Milestone supports 32GB of expandable memory (MicroSD).
Other features include an accelerometer, a 5-megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, auto-focus, image stabilization, dual LED flash and 720 by 480 video capture, making the Milestone a serious multimedia device.
Naturally, the 'droided-out Milestone will also feature the gambit of Android-related perks, including Gmail, Google Maps and Google Calendar as well as built-in access to the Android Market.
Already touted as the "iPhone Killer," a moniker that's been misapplied to also-ran devices including the original T-Mobile G1, the Palm Pre and the BlackBerry Storm, the Motorola Milestone is, at the very least, the best iteration of an Android powered keyboard and multi-touch combo device seen to date.
