Godfather I and II restored, Blu-ray bound... again
Francis Ford Coppola's fully restored, academy award-winning masterpieces will debut individually on Blu-ray for the first time this February - with availability as singular Blu-ray movies the only news worth talking about.
That is to say, the restored and remastered films are already available as The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration, a $125 Giftset that also includes The Godfather Part III, which no one ever watches let alone talks about with anything resembling "fondness."
Having recently undergone a meticulous restoration overseen by the director himself, Paramount asserts that the films have returned to their original glory through an extensive frame-by-frame examination and restoration utilizing state-of-the-art digital technology, which required more than a year to complete.
But now consumers can purchase two of the most influential films in modern cinema history without being stuck with the decent but unremarkable concluding film of the trilogy.
The Godfather and The Godfather Part II on Blu-ray will cost about $40 each. Both will be presented in 1080p High Definition with English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD, English Mono, French 5.1 Dolby Digital and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital along with English, English SDH, French, Spanish and Portuguese subtitles and also include the director's commentary.
Note: to press time, Amazon is listing the The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration Giftset on Blu-ray at
